Caught in a magnificent glimpse
Of a mighty yet fragile wing
You stare, I sigh
Another butterfly

Her eyes, dark and fierce
Spot a tiny light in the land below
She hesitates, swoops down
And, for a minute, lets you wear her crown

She smiles at you, I cease to exist
As she leans in for her very first kiss

Then, a swoosh of mighty wings
She's gone again

My love, I say
As you stubbornly await your queen's return
She's cruel, my love, she likes to play
She wants to fly and never stay
There is no chance, your love is doomed

And we watch her
Soaring high
Silhouetted against the burning gold of the sun
Image fleeting, forever gone
As we remain, alone again
